Appliances that use 50% less electricity.

Great for saving energy and mandatory in Switzerland since 2015: heat pumps in tumble dryers. But only V-ZUG offers this energy-saving technology in washing machines and dishwashers, too.

Hilmar Meienberg, Patrick Bon and Ingo Gau, you’re specialists in washing, dishwashing and applications technology at V-ZUG. Let’s talk about a unique component in two top V-ZUG appliances: the heat pump.

Heat pumps don’t sound very exciting, do they? You get them in fridges, tumble dryers and heating systems, but people often forget that the introduction of heat pumps into domestic tumble dryers 15 years ago was a major technological achievement, resulting in a 50% reduction in energy consumption.

V-ZUG has succeeded in transferring this energy-saving potential to two other appliances. How does this work?

Firstly, we have the V-ZUG AdoraDish V6000 with heat pump, which uses up to 50% less energy than conventional dishwashers. A closed water tank is integrated into the heat reservoir. Latent heat is extracted from the water and the energy gained is used to heat the fresh water. A useful side effect of this is shorter programmes, such as the 17-minute Sprint programme.

Secondly, we have V-ZUG washing machines with heat pumps. The current model is the AdoraWash V6000, which uses 40% less energy than conventional A+++ washing machines. This is why at V-ZUG we’ve long been of the opinion that it’s time to rethink the A+++ category.

Your wish is soon to be granted: on 1 March 2021, 25 years after the now-familiar energy efficiency labels were first introduced, Switzerland will adopt a new and much more stringent EU regulation which reflects technological advances in electrical appliances. What will consumers notice?

Mainly that the A+++ category has disappeared. In future, the highest possible ranking will be A. All dishwashers and washing machines without heat pumps will now be category C or at best B.

And the V-ZUG appliances with heat pumps?

Many years after the launch of our new development, we will finally see the fruits of our labours: as of 1 March 2021, our top appliances with heat pumps will receive a straight A. What’s more, they already use 10% less energy than the maximum permitted for this category.

You can’t do better than that. So is V-ZUG setting the standard for Europe?

Definitely. When developing its new energy labelling system, the European Commission it researched the market. Current V-ZUG appliances show what is possible and what direction development is going in, so in Brussels they are officially seen as energy-saving role models.

That’s typical of V-ZUG products.

We want to offer our customers appliances with the lowest energy consumption on the market.

And that’s only possible by incorporating heat pumps?

There’s no other way.

The competition is sure to follow suit.

Not at the moment. Our heat pumps are extremely complex machines. They are made of high-quality materials and integrating them into dishwashers and washing machines was challenging in all sorts of ways, we really had to knuckle down. In short, if you want washing machines and dishwashers that use a heat pump to save energy, only V-ZUG has what you’re looking for.
